The City School District of Â鶹ӰÒô was notified Thursday of 14 new confirmed cases of COVID-19. All cases and their unvaccinated contacts are quarantining at home.
Seven of these cases involve Montessori Magnet School:
- Two of these cases involve kindergarten. Both individuals were last in the building Oct. 27. The Â鶹ӰÒô County Health Department has identified a total of 15 contacts with these cases.
- Two cases involve fifth grade. One individual was last in the building Oct. 26. The health department has identified two additional contacts with this case.
- One case involves the first grade. This individual was last in the building Oct. 26. The health department has identified two contacts, but neither of these individuals is required to quarantine as both are fully vaccinated.
- Another case involves second grade. This individual was last in the building Oct. 27. The health department has identified 33 additional contacts with this case.
- Montessori’s final case Thursday involves third grade. This individual was last in the building Oct. 22. The health department has identified 17 additional contacts, two of whom are not required to quarantine because they are fully vaccinated.
- As a result of these cases in addition to six previous cases and 37 contacts quarantined from Oct. 22-27, all Montessori students will shift to distance learning on Friday, Oct. 29 out of an abundance of caution to lessen the risk for further transmission.
Two cases are associated with Delaware Community School. One of these cases involves the third grade. This individual was last in the building Oct. 22. The second case involves the fourth grade. This individual also was last in the building Oct. 22. The health department has identified no additional contacts with either of these cases.
Two cases are associated with New Scotland Elementary School. One of these cases involves the third grade. This individual was last in the building Oct. 22 and the health department has identified two additional contacts. The second case at New Scotland involves the fifth grade. This individual was last in the building Oct. 18 and the health department has identified three additional contacts.
Another case involves the first grade at Â鶹ӰÒô School of Humanities (ASH). This individual was last in the building Oct. 26. The health department has identified five additional contacts. However, none of these individuals is required to quarantine as all are fully vaccinated.
Another case involves Philip J. Schulyer Achievement Academy. This individual was last in the building Oct. 26. The health department has identified two additional contacts. However, neither of these individuals is required to quarantine as both are fully vaccinated.
Thursday’s final case is associated with the eighth grade at William S. Hackett Middle School. This individual was last in the building Oct. 18 and the health department has identified 20 additional contacts.
Health and safety procedures at all district buildings continue to include cleaning and sanitizing. We will continue with these procedures, and also will continue to follow all required COVID-19 precautions (wearing masks inside all district buildings, hand hygiene, social distancing of 3 feet or more in all classrooms, and other precautions).
We also would like to remind everyone of steps you can take to help be safe:
- Maintain social distance at all times from those you don’t live with.
- Always wear a mask that covers both the mouth and nose when inside at school or when your student is riding a bus to or from school.
- Wash hands with soap and water frequently when out of your home. If you cannot use soap and water, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Don’t touch the eyes, nose or mouth unless your hands are clean.
- DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL WHEN THEY ARE SICK OR HAVE SYMPTOMS:
- Signs of COVID-19 are: fever, fatigue/tiredness, muscle/body aches or pains, congestion, cough, runny nose, shortness of breath/difficulty breathing, nausea/vomiting or diarrhea, headache, loss of taste or smell, rash, feeling sick or unwell in any way.
