November is Native American Heritage Month. It is a time to celebrate and explore the rich cultures, traditions, histories, achievements and challenges of the original inhabitants of the lands that now make up the United States.
Native American Heritage Month was signed into federal law in 1990, but New York became the first state to declare a day to celebrate Native American culture and contributions as early as 1916.
As a district, we prioritize the contributions of Native people past and present with curricula that recognize their deep history locally, in New York, across the country and around the world.
Please to find ways to acknowledge, learn about and celebrate the heritage and culture of Indigenous peoples.
