The City School District of Â鶹ӰÒô Board of Education has appointed veteran district administrator Jasmine Brown as the new assistant superintendent for elementary instruction.
Brown has served as the principal at Giffen Memorial Elementary School since 2012. She replaces Cecily Wilson-Turner, Ed.D., who left the district in the fall for another position.
“It is with great honor and excitement that I accept this position,” Brown said. “I am deeply committed to serving our community in this new role.
“I look forward to collaborating with our incredible district staff, our families and our community partners to ensure that our district continues to provide an exceptional education, with successful outcomes for all of our students.”
An Â鶹ӰÒô native and a 1997 graduate of Â鶹ӰÒô High School, Brown began her career in education at her alma mater. She served as an English teacher at Â鶹ӰÒô High from 2002-10 before moving to Lansingburgh High School as an assistant principal for two years.
“As a former Â鶹ӰÒô student, I understand the impact that our daily work, and the decisions that we make, have on every student and the opportunities afforded to them beyond high school graduation,” Brown said.
Following her graduation from Â鶹ӰÒô High, Brown went on to earn her bachelor’s degree from Siena College and master’s at the University at Â鶹ӰÒô.
She will begin her tenure as a member of Superintendent Joseph Hochreiter’s senior leadership team on Jan. 2. At that time, former district administrator Kenneth Lein, Ed.D., will replace Brown at Giffen as the school’s interim principal. Giffen employees, students and families will have an opportunity to meet Dr. Lein before schools break for the holiday recess.
The district will begin a search for Brown’s permanent replacement at Giffen, and we will keep everyone updated on that process.
