The City School District of Â鶹ӰÒô is forming a Community Budget Committee and is seeking volunteers to participate in the 2021-22 budgeting process. The purpose of the committee is to provide input to the Board of Education on the community’s priorities and areas Â鶹ӰÒô residents would like to see resources directed to in the district’s upcoming budget.

As part of the scope of the committee, volunteers would work alongside district employees to develop an understanding of district revenue sources, mandated programs/services and resource allocation in support of the district’s vision, mission and goals.

The committee is anticipated to meet virtually four times between now and March 12. It will  provide input to the board prior to the board’s adoption of the 2021-22 district budget.

“Now, more than ever before, it is imperative that the City School District of Â鶹ӰÒô assures that our limited fiscal resources are in alignment with our students’ needs and our community’s economic realities,” said Superintendent Kaweeda G. Adams.

“We are going to have to make difficult decisions. We are going to have to be creative. And that is why it’s crucial that we work collaboratively with all stakeholders to support instruction and provide high-quality programs and services for our students and families.”

All interested candidates will be considered and those with financial experience are encouraged to apply. Please submit a letter of introduction and resume to Deputy Superintendent of Business and Finance, Kimberly Rohring, at krohring@albany.k12.ny.us. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 15.

The $261.6 million budget for 2020-21 passed last June with 74% approval, the second-highest approval percentage in the district’s history.
